Sustainability
New Zealand green-lipped mussels are one of the most
environmentally sustainable species to farm in the world.
A Lifecycle Assessment Study shows the carbon footprint to be
comparable to tofu. We are proud to be part of an industry
that has a low impact and are committed to keeping it that way.

Farming without
a Trace
Mussels are highly self-sufficient. Unlike land or fish farming, mussels don’t require any additives such as feed or fertiliser to grow. Instead, they feed on plankton in the sea. And because they’re filter feeders, they clean the water, improving the overall health of the marine ecosystem.
Reducing
our footprint
To reduce the environmental impact of our operations, we created Greenlab,
our in-house resource dedicated to continual improvement in sustainability.
As a team, we’ve improved our recycling and waste management processes,
energy efficiency, and utilisation of green energy.
We are active in progressing the development of a seaweed sector which we believe will be a
nature-positive industry as well as providing social, cultural and economic benefits for New Zealand.
